Words with a source.
MedScript uses three open-source datasets alongside its general English dictionary and regional spelling rules. The medical datasets are distributed under GPL-3.0.
- Glutanimate medical word list — merged OpenMedSpel and Raj&Co terms. Licence · Original word list
- Glutanimate medical Hunspell dictionary — overlapping medical vocabulary. Licence · Original dictionary
- LITFL / Chris Barlow medical dictionary — includes Australian/UK medical variants and general English. Licence · Original dictionary · Affix rules
How these are used
We merge and deduplicate the word lists, normalise case and apostrophes, and strip Hunspell flags. Affix rules are not expanded. Some chemical expressions with punctuation are excluded. Regional spelling checks run before dictionary acceptance, so a recognised US spelling can still be highlighted in an Australian document.
The source lists overlap, and not all entries are medical terms. Their documented drug coverage dates to 2014. New medicines may be absent and some entries may be incorrect. This is a spelling aid, not a clinical validation tool.
Documents stay in browser memory. Personal dictionary words are saved in this browser. The app downloads dictionaries from its own host and fonts from Google Fonts; it does not upload your document.
